Antibiotics such as nitrofurantoin will not work for colds , flu , or other viral infections . Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection after that resists antibiotic treatment.

Nitrofurantoin comes as a capsule and a suspension(liquid) and tablet to take by mouth . Nitrofurantoin usually is taken with food two or four times a day for at least 7days .
